In 2021, I took a road trip to Fiera di Parma, one of Italy’s largest antique fairs. That episode turned out to be one of the most-watched on my channel, with over 24,000 views and counting. People still ask me about the fair, so let’s go back and revisit the experience.

Getting to Parma

Parma is just under two hours from Milan and is best known for Parma ham, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and homemade pasta. The food is always outstanding, but this trip was about something else—antiques.

Exploring the Fiera di Parma

Held twice a year, the fair takes over five massive exhibition halls, plus an outdoor area overflowing with antiques, vintage finds, and collectibles. Right at the entrance, I stopped to check out two special exhibitions: one on Thai textiles from the Museum of Silk in Como (which my husband loved), and another on fine art restoration, where experts were restoring old masterpieces.

Unforgettable Antique Finds

Everywhere I looked, there was something worth seeing. Some of the best finds included:

  • Antique mirrors – Ornate, gilded, and intricately carved, full of old-world charm.
  • Massive wooden tables – Grand, handcrafted pieces perfect for a statement dining space.
  • Vintage furniture – From elegant armoires to unique sideboards, every piece had history.
  • Unique weapons – Decorative swords, historical firearms, and rare collector’s items.
  • Vintage luggage – Classic leather suitcases, steamer trunks, and travel bags with timeless appeal.
  • Antique butcher blocks – Thick, beautifully worn wooden slabs ideal for rustic kitchens.

Textiles, Fashion, and Craftsmanship

The fair wasn’t just about furniture and décor. There were also:

  • Rich velvets for upholstery – Perfect for restoring antique chairs and sofas.
  • Antique buttons – Tiny details that add character to vintage garments.
  • Vintage sewing machines – Functional and decorative collector’s items.
  • Vintage clothing – Lace dresses, classic leather handbags, and unique costume jewelry.

Food at the Fair

You can’t go to Parma without indulging in the local food, and even the fair’s food stands didn’t disappoint. Fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano, cured meats, and other local specialties were perfect for a break between exploring. The scent of aged cheese and freshly sliced prosciutto filled the air, reminding me why Parma is a food lover’s paradise.

A Fair That Goes Beyond Antiques

Some finds were unexpected. I even spotted The Face of Boe from Doctor Who—not something I expected to see at an antique fair. And yes, even the bouclé furniture trend made an appearance with a selection of stylish chairs and sofas that blended old-world charm with modern aesthetics.

Why This Fair Stands Out

Antiquing in Italy is always an adventure. You never know what you’ll find, and even if you don’t buy anything, it’s worth the visit just to see the sheer range of history on display. Whether you’re looking for fine art, vintage décor, or rare collectibles, the Fiera di Parma has something for every treasure hunter.
